On October 26, Ms. Marcus arrived in Athens for a [[strikethrough]] small [[/strikethrough]] short stay as a visiting artist. My first impression upon seeing her for the first time, was one of surprise. Having seen her retrospective in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio States' Sullivant Gallery, Columbus, which contains a number of Self-portraits, I was immediately caught off guard. The paintings command a strong sense of presence of herself-not only in the self-portraits, but also in her other works. Here was this woman who seemed sincerely modest and unostentatious making [[strikethrough]] these [[/strikethrough]] large, powerful paintings.

I hoped that I could keep up with her in my interview. I worried about asking the 'right' questions, but Ms. Marcus made my part very easy. To hear her speak about art, is very mesmerizing. Her experience in the art world and life compose her colorful and wonderful personality.

After our interview, we were speaking in terms of afterthought of our conversation. She was - for a slide lecture and fixing her hair in the mirror. I said something, which I've long forgotten, and she turned her head away from the mirror to look at me. I wasn't listening to what she said, because I was too struck by the image. The wonderful presence I felt when seeing her paintings, had just returned and I was faced with one of her paintings in it's inspirational form.

I think to be able to convey this in print takes a unique talent. It takes a unique talent to make good art.
