Cadenabbia, Lake of Como,

June 17,1884.

you remember for the 1st M.B. of the Pickering Valley guaranteed by the Reading Co. Will you do this for me?

And will you also send me the names of sundry 1st M.B. which are looked on by well-informed men as being quite reliable - both $100. and also $1000. Bonds. Every now and again we are called upon to invest some money which has been paid in, and I am in a quandary to know what to do, especially during the summer when I can find no one who knows anything about such matters. You can easily get this information for us, and you will do us a great favor.

Mary has been pretty well all winter, barring an occasional cold (wh. however, did not affect her seriously, and a certain amount of lameness which obliged her to keep more quiet than was agreeable or desirable for her general condition. The rest of us have been pretty well:- I got rather more sleep than I did the winter before which made me feel better.

[[edit mark]] John is just now in London, where he has some commissions for portraits to execute, and is very well. He talks of going to Spain later on in the season, where he hopes to find some subjects for pictures. Spain affords more such suggestions than any other European country (of central Europe, at all events!) and it is less visited than most countries and offers more that is novel and picturesque at the same time, baronial-looking beggars, weird-looking gipsies and smugglers and dancers and peasants, all in their quaint and old time costumes, to gather with bull-fights and brigands &c &c . Our address for the summer will be, Care of Mess.Hottinguer & Cie, Paris, until we shall be settled down again for the winter. And so,with best love to Lizzie and the brotherhood in general, I am

Always your affectionate bro,

F.W.
