Mr. Pelmer C. Hayden
29 Greenwich Ave.
New York City.

My dear Mr. Hayden:

It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that the judges of the William E.Harmon Awards for Distinguished Achievement in Fine Arts have voted you the First Award. As announced in this official bulletin setting forth the Awards, this includes $400 in cash and a gold medal.

This Award will be presented to you on January 1st, 1927, at a public meeting in this city, about which you will have full information later. We have sent official statement to the newspapers about this and the other awards for publication on December 8. We request, therefore, that this matter be kept confidential until after that date. After that time should you have any request for information to facts about your own life and work, and refer to me inquiries about the details of the awards other than the facts published on the official bulletin which is enclosed.

On the behalf of the Harmon Foundation and the Commission on the Church and Race Relations, I congratulate you on the achievement you have already made and trust that this public recognition of its value may be helpful to encourage you to greater effort and may be stimulation to others.

Yours cordially, George Haynes

Unsure about specifics of formatting the list of names at the top of the page. Found instructions for columns in general, but seemed unhelpful for the situation. Wrote all data for the sake of convenience so that it could be reformatted if required.
