and cloudy, but turned off to be a beautiful day later on. It was interesting to watch our progress from one lock to another, and seemed rather strange to be going through a country in that manner, but it was lovely to be among the Highlands. Although I thought they were lovely and more varied I am still partial to our own Highlands on the Hudson River. Of course the Highlands on the Hudson have no picturesque ruins of castles nor snow capped mountains. By afternoon we reached Fort Williams, beautifully situated in the midst of the Highlands, where we are to spend the night.
