Yesterday I bowled most of the afternoon with Maltby and not having exercised in a long time feel a little stiff today in consequence. Last night I didn't feel like doing much of anything except seeing you. Outside of that I felt like being alone. At the last moment I went over to the Academy to see one of those awful melodramas. It was a ten twenty thirty show but very good for that money and it served to pass the time. A number of people from the hotel have gone to see the company three or four times.

You know for some time I have been thinking over this question of where to live. Now there is a lot of good to be had from living in New York part of the year and I suppose to an artist who is trying to make a reputation it is almost necessary but how I would like to get out of it if I could. The life down there seems so shallow and empty somehow and you do get so tired of people and things. Perhaps I am a crank
