[] Ranger Ranger Memorial Exh. 1958 [] June 20, 1958 Mr. Robert Hale Metropolitan Museum of Art Fifth Avenue & 82 Street New York, New York Dear Mr. Hale: The National Academy of Design is planning a special exhibition in its Galleries in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Henry Ward Ranger, N.A. from September 24 through October 12, 1958. In this connection the Academy will exhibit paintings purchased with the Henry Ward Ranger Fund since it was established in 1919. As an introduction to the exhibition we plan to flank the portrait of Ranger by Jongers with two representative examples of Mr. Ranger's landscapes. The President, Mr. Eliot Clarck, has therefore, requested me to write and ask permission to borrow the two landscapes by Henry Ward Ranger in your collection: "High Bridge" and "Spring Woods". The Academy will defray all expenses of transportation, insurance, etc. in connection with this loan. May we have a photograph of each painting to send to the President who is in Virginia for the summer. Trusting that we may have a favorable reply, I am Sincerely yours, Director M
