families, a gentleman came to our town with two ladies to establish a colored school, they were sent there by a freedmens association of Friends in Iowa. Miss Howard and Miss Towsend the young ladies, were very coldly received, in fact they could get no assistance, from those to whome they looked for aid, and were about leaving, But they came to my orphans Home, and stated their case to me, I received them kindly, (they are true and intelligent ladies) allowed them to occupy a part of the Hospital building for their colored school, and gave them a home, with my matron, and teacher, By reference to their report which has been forwarded to your department, you will see what has been their success, In addition to their school, with my assistance they had, when I left home, twenty orphan colored children, and a number of old women, feeding and clothing, from their own private funds.

Now Sir, something must be done, immediately for these destitute children, I have made every effort in my power to raise funds, to cloth, and feed them, but have failed. [[strikethrough]] By [[/strikethrough]] For my efforts to save, and assist, in careing for the colored children, I am denied assistence for my white orphan children, I now appeal to you, and if you refuse my intreates, fifty poor little orphan children must be turned again out to starve, I have been very industrious in my efforts to find homes for these
