On this Sixteenth day of April, in the year one thousand eight hundred & sixty six, personally appeared before me, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace for the County and State above mentioned, William Williams, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical William Williams, who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain Charles W. Dey, in the First Regiment U.S. Colored Cavalry, Commanded by Col. Jeptha Samand; that he enlisted on the 20th day of December, 1864, for the term of three (3) years, and was discharged at Brazos Santiago, Texas, on the 4th day of February, 1866, by reason of "S.O. series 1866, Hd Qrs Dept. of Texas." He also further declares that no certificate of retained bounty was ever furnished him - either at the time of his enlistment, or at any period subsequent thereto.
