ARC

Dear Ms. Neel,

As a cooperative of women artists, we would like to familiarize you with you activities and to invite you to participate in an evening program at our gallery in Chicago.

ARC Gallery was founded in September 1973 by several artists as an alternative to the commercial gallery system. There are twenty members, each of whom works in the gallery and contributes funds towards gallery costs. Monthly two-woman shows are arranged so that each artist has one show per year. We have just sponsored our first invitational, "Women Choose Men", to which men were invited by ARC members in order to extend the benefits of the gallery to other Chicago artists.

The educational program of informal evening discussions with artists, artcritics and historians, curators, et.al., has been the source of a great exchange of knowledge and experience in the Chicago art community. In the past we have had Virginia Wexman, Ellon Lanyon, Sarah Canright, Mark Faverman of the Boston Visual Artists' Union, among others.

It is in respect to these programs that we are writing, in anticipation that if/when you are in the midwest region, you might enjoy speaking at ARC. The content and format of the programs are entirely up to the speakers. We are a non-profit organization and as a result are unable to pay transportation from New York. However, if you are nearby, we will be happy to cover transportation costs and to provide accommodations for you during your visit.

We hope you will consider our proposal. The exchange and dissemination of information among artists is essentisl, and our experience has demonstrated that our speakers profit from the visit as well as the audience and ARC.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely.
Laurel M. Ross
