Many thanks for your kind note of 7th inst. It reached here at the same time that Gen's S. & F. did, and I thought I would wait until they went away before I made reply.
They remained with us three days. They were polite and kind themselves, but they have with them a party of reporters, travelling as clerks who behaved not quite so well. As it was the first time in my life I ever was subjected to detective operations and I thought the whole thing an insult to every man in the Bureau I could not help showing my teeth a little. They went from here to Selma and are now en-route for Mobile. But
