Dear Ms. Sklarek:

CONGRATULATIONS...on your pioneering career in architecture, you are a role model to all, who dream of a career in architecture.

We are pleased that Carolyn Armenta Davis had the opportunity to talk with you this morning. THE CHICAGO ATHENAEUM: Museum of Architecture and Design is organizing a major exhibition entitled DESIGN DIASPORA: BLACK ARCHITECTS & INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE 1970-90. The exhibition program was initiated and is being curated by Carolyn Armenta Davis.

The exhibit, which is the first traveling museum exhibit to acknowledge the achievements of Black architects on both sides of the Atlantic, will present some 100 completed projects designed 1970-90 by key Black architects in the United States, The Americas, Africa and Europe. The design projects were selected from over 280 global projects submitted. The exhibit opens its 4-year national and international tour in Chicago, June 15-August 20, 1993

We would be grateful if you could assist with this historic exhibition program by writing an essay for the exhibit catalogue. Your essay should be 2-3 pages and should share your perspective on the achievements of minority architects in the United States from the 1970's to today. We would need your essay by May 1, 1993.

Architects Cesar Pelli, (who is a museum board member) and Olufemi Majekodunmi, of Nigeria, President-International Union of Architects are also writing the other essays for the exhibit catalogue.

We will anxiously await your quick response to our request for your essay for the exhibit catalogue. If you need additional information, please contact me or Carolyn Armenta Davis 312.266.0269.

The museum also has a "Women in Design" program, and we will contact you soon to discuss that program.

Sincerely,
Christian Laine
