Lee in an endorsement dated May 7/66 forwarding the above letter says - "I am informed that the three men within named are the same persons that visited, in the night time, a few weeks ago - the private boarding house of Miss Watkins, teacher of a colored school at Fairfax C.H. Va. and demanded her delivery to them, saying their intention was to "tar and feather" her. When informed that the lady was not at the house, they left, but soon afterwards returned making the same demand and uttering the same threats"
