James Floyd 50 years old. not able bodied 9 in family. 2 grown daughters and sickly wife: Remainder are young children has lived by the trifling charity of his neighbors who are almost as poor as himself, owns no land but is a squatter on public land. has no stock. lives in a poor log hut. had he not got some rations from the Govt he and his family would have starved. Know of no one who has actually starved to death. but many would have done so had the Govt not assisted them. Has hardly clothing to cover his family's nakedness. Would not apply to the Govt' till he was absolutely forced to. Has always been a Union man.
