Before me personally appeared the undersigned John White Cotton, and being duly sworn deposes as follows My Name is John White Cotton I live in the City of Memphis Tenn on the 2" day of May 1866 I saw a white Man Named Dick Marsh shoot a Colored Man [[strikethrough]] shoot a Colored Man [[/strikethrough]] by the Name of Benn Cotton on the bank of the river Dick Marsh lives in the city but I do not know where at a white Man named A.J. Kenil who keeps a meat shop near the river saw "Marsh shoot him" I do not know where Cotton is - he was not killed John White his X mark Cotton Subscribed and Sworn to before me at Memphis Tenn this the 10th day of May 1866.
