Before me personally appeared the undersigned and being duly sworn deposes as follows
My name is Celia Simmons I live in the City of Memphis on the night of the 3rd day of May 1866. three men came to my house and demanded entrance - I let them in, they said for me "to make a light or they would kill me" and drew a pistol on me. They asked me where the damd man was I had. I told them I had none.
My two daughters were in bed. one of the men drew his revolver on them. When they first came in they called him "John" and told him not to shoot that they were children, but he fired into the bed and wounded one of my oldest daughters (19 Yrs) in the arm and breast and the other eight years old in the lip
The next morning I had to leave and lost all my things which amounted to $70.00
