THE TWENTIETH CENTURY FUND
330 WEST FORTY-SECOND STREET
NEW YORK CITY

June 27, 1940

Miss Katherine Schmidt
19 West 12th Street
New York, New York

Dear Miss Schmidt:

I am enclosing a revised copy of the memorandum, a copy of which, following our conversation, I sent it to Dr. Leland in Washington. I also furnished Dr. Leland with your address and that of Mr. Levi and Mr. Rothschild, and suggested that if there were any questions he could consult with you freely with no assumption of any expressed or implied commitment on his part. I told him that our conversations had been wholly informal and that this memorandum was not, in its present form, in any respect a formal request but merely a suggested outline of a possible project.

If anything should come up during the next month or so while I will be away from the city, that makes it desirable for you to get in touch with him directly, I see no reason why you should not do so. He can be reached as follows:

Dr. Waldo G. Leland, Director
American Council of Learned Societies
907 Fifteenth Street
Washington, D. C.

In spite of the troubled condition of the world I hope that eventually something can be worked out along these lines.

Cordially yours,
J. Frederic Dewhurst
