Dear Sir:

The Government Arts Committee of the New York Chapter of Artists Equity Association is seeking to make as detailed a survey as is possible of the cultural programs other governments are currently undertaking, exclusive of its general education program. This committee is vitally interested in general education, music, theatre, ballet and literature, but at the moment we are primarily occupied in gathering research revolving around what other governments are doing in regard to fostering the fine arts and promoting the welfare of their painters, sculptors, and graphic artists.

In connection with this we would find it very [(j strike over h)]jhelpful if you could let us know what your government does in the matter of:

I. Maintaining, under, or separately from that of Education, a Ministry of Fine Arts, an Arts Council, or Commission relating to the fine arts.

II. If such a department exists would it be possible for you to make available to us the yearly funds your government allots to the development of its art program.

III. Does such a Department, Ministry, or Council give whole or partial support to
1. art museums
2. art schools
3. community, or regional, art or craft [(l strike over o)]schoolls
4. art publications
5. art school scholarships
