Schools of Drama in Great Britain
Since the Institute of International Education has received so many inquiries from American students who wish to study drama in Great Britain, this information has been compiled from the prospectuses of the three following schools. Prospective students should realise that, owing to the crowded conditions in the British universities and institutions of higher education, it is advisable to make arrangements well in advance.

The Old Vic Theatre School
70, Thurlow Park Road
Dulwich, S.W.21

Acting Courses: Will accept students only between the ages of 17 and 23, not over 27 if they are veterans. Students will be given a preliminary audition by a member of the Acting Course staff. If successful at this audition, candidates will be required to give a further audition before the Director of the School or his representative.
Technical Production Course: For future state managers and producers, but also for all those (for instance writers or musicians) who wish to have a firm technical knowledge on which to base their creative work. Includes instruction in the technical preparation of a production, and the detailed running of the stage.
Technical Stage Design Course: Instruction in all departments of stage mechanics and lighting.
Advanced Course: Aim is to develop the creative ability of potential producers and designers. It is only for students who have taken one of the above courses.
The last three courses last one year. Students are not accepted in any term but at the beginning of the academic year, i.e., the Autumn Term.
