activated with electrical light. Fragmented forms made of such glass tubing form divisions which correspond to an artistic awareness that the colored tubing has to be placed according to the art-vocabulary formula.

Often in the inspiration stage of working with a neon box I find color destructive in that it interferes with my concentrating on form.

The neon tubing shapes fragments of letters. The fragments I incorporate into my work are repeated like a machine-made product. The Plexiglas case that encloses the neon tubing repeats the work in all directions. To me this relates more to "measure" than reflection. both sculpture and case relate to function. The shapes give light. The case protects the fragile tubes and resembles night. The timer inserted in the lower section of the box measures time and functions in many different ways.

I choose the color of the case (Plexiglas Grey #2164) because it resembles night, or darkness, which relates to my original concept.

I feel strongly about media, and most of all about the independence of my light sculptures of their technology. What I mean is that the transformers will eventually wear out, but fortunately, we have the sun and the moon, day and night. Without electricity my sculpture will still survive.
