Folded Automat

A neon sculpture entitled Folded Automat includes rotating space; the letters spelling the word "automat" are folded. This piece is related to the large Automat, in which each letter is [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] divided in two.

Each half letter is completed by each reflection of the Plexiglas sheet of the enclosure of the Plexiglas case: thus reality is equated with illusion.

I use various light densities. A rheostat is introduced to intensify rotating movement. The placement of the letters was inside out and outside in; in other words, there are two movements or approaches to space. It is a way of enclosing the space of the observer. Like a collage made with glass.

The metal birds

Fragment of a commercial letter sign that reached abstraction, resembling the shape of a bird. The forms are placed horizontally, as seen from above, and are repeated. The upper half-form has inserted neon and is completed by a lower half-form of metal and neon. This suggests rotating space and involves the element of time (movement).

Horizontally placed forms are separated by air space, which I relate to measure, or thickness. Repetition of forms I relate, to nature's repetition, as in the leaves of a plant.
