ROBERT C. SCULL TEN TEN FIFTH AVENUE NEW YORK 28 19 June 1968 Dear Kay: I have your note of 17 June in which you ask, on behalf of Bob Morris, whether my tax refund estimate on the sculpture I am offering to the Metropolitan Museum has been decided upon. Up to the time of this writing, there is no possibility of ascertaining any tax refund estimate on my donation of the aluminum "Square Donut" to the Metropolitan, because they have not accepted the piece as yet. Since my offer, I know that the Board of Trustees, who officially must approve the acceptance of any art gifts, has accepted other works of art. However, they have not yet said they want the Bob Morris piece. I will endeavor to learn whether there are any reasons other than their not liking the sculpture. If I do learn of any, I will let Bob know as soon as the information is available to me. However, I have every intention of limiting my offer of "Square Donut" to only the next month or two, after which I shall withdraw the piece. They certainly have had enough time to consider its importance. In the event the piece is withdrawn, I shall proceed with the original plan of destroying the sculpture. I shall have photos taken of its final annihilation so that no question can arise in the future as to its origin or encumbrance of ownership. The title to all of the works I own is crystal clear, and I would have no traffic with owning art with dubious or murky histories. I will endeavor to obtain an answer from the Metropolitan as quickly as possible. When I do I will advance the information, again in writing, so that you can have an accurate written account to report to Bob Morris. With best regards, Sincerely, Bob Scull Robert C.
