A sculptor who finds fundamental beauty in the movements of working women and housewives at their daily tasks, Miss Marion Sanford has portrayed her subjects in metal, clay and stone. Above, a model sits by the statue of a woman mashing buttermilk out of butter. Recent winner of a National Academy award, the New York artist works mostly from memory of her farm days for figures such as this one. She started the working women series five years ago, after winning a Guggenheim fellowship.
