Statuesque beauty. Sculptress Marion Sanford of New York, winner of a National Academy awards, says that the beauty in everyday chores is neglected, and makes statues to prove her point. The scrubwoman is an example.

-> Art of making butter. This statue of a woman churning butter was made from the sculptress' memory of her childhood days on the farm. She works in plastelene.

Mash action. The figure of a woman mashing buttermilk out of butter is another result of Miss Sanford's life on the farm. Her finished works are in metal, clay or stone. As you have seen, her working women are of the brawny, rather than delicate, type. (Fotos by Aeme)
