To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to you with regards to an exhibition I am currently curating (with Claudia Bohn-Spector), entitled" Speaking in Tongues: Wallace Berman and Robert Heinecken."

Our show is scheduled to open at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena on September 25, 2011 and will run through the end of the year. The exhibition has received generous support from the Getty Foundation as part of its Pacific Standard Time initiative, a celebration of Post-WWII Los Angeles art with over 30 concurrent exhibitions throughout Southern California in the fall of 2011. You can find more information on Pacific Standard Time and the Armory Center by going to these websites:

I'm also attaching a brief synopsis of our exhibition for your information.

We would very much like to include a work by Wallace Berman from your collection.

Wallace Berman
Untitled (for brother Robert.) [big aleph], no date
35.5 x 28 cm

We hope you'll be willing to lend to our show. It would make a wonderful addition to the nearly 200 works by these two seminal Los Angeles artists that will be on view. If you agree, the Armory Center will be in touch with you later this summer with an official request that will spell out the conditions and duration of the loan.

In the meantime, thank you very much for your kind consideration.

Sincerely,

Sam Mellon
