A more intimate knowledge of what constitutes truth and beauty of form, a grace that trenches [?] not on affection, the touches of character, the [[strikethrough]]trace [[/strikethrough]] expression of sentiment that may degenerate into caricature, the force and harmony of coloring that range between the extremes of brightness and obscurity, anatomy that will suffer no distortion, costume that may not confound distant nations & remote ages, perspective that shall seem to divest the canvas of its flat, tangible surface and extend it into aerial space, cover it w/ mts. and lakes, people it with multitudes, and execution that shall happily imitate the texture of all known bodies, and especially give the flesh its diversified hues of health and beauty.
