Dear Jim:

The transparency came today and it is absolutely beautiful. It will make an outstanding poster. It will certainly be a selling point if you apply for a grant in the fact that this can be distributed throughout the school system in Washington. We found the Whitney had great success with the one that IBM published for the Lawrence exhibition.

Here is some pertinent information about the projected benefit to the Schomburg Library and what it stands for as a public image.

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 103 West 135 Street, New York, New York 10030, is one of The Research Libraries of The New York Public Library system. The reason for their benefit at Terry Dintenfass is to raise money for a permanent building. It now houses the most complete library of black history, both Hispanic and international, in the United States and it also has a black painting and print department which is accessible to all students. There are many rare volumes which are restricted to study on the premises but it is also a lending and flexible institution.

I am enclosing a small brochure about its founder and its purposes. Mr. Schomburg was a Hispanic black and extremely active in the cultural movement of his time. This institution has been used by many scholars and perhaps, if you wish, I can have Mr. Albert Milano who directs their publicity and is in the Development Office of the New York Public Library System write to you or you might want to write to him if any further information is needed. He has a copy of the letter you wrote confirming the March 1 date and we are now preparing a general budget for him.

I am really looking forward to this project with an enormous amount of enthusiasm. I do think that it is possible that the National Endowment for the Arts would be happy to support this and since the extension of the show to our gallery is only to benefit the Library, they will be most cooperative. Please keep me informed.

Chris will mail you the addresses as soon as possible and will get as much as she can to youmm she can by the end of next week.
