I have the honor to submit the following, hopeing that it will be favorably considered:

Knowing that you are a native of the State of Maine, and that you ocupy an influential position in the Army, I am prompted to write you, soliciting your influence in behalf of one, who, like yourself, has lost an arm in the defence of his Country.

I entered the U.S. Service in May 1861 and served until July 3rd 1863 when I was wounded at the Battle of Gettesburg, which resulted in loss of my left arm.  After recovering from my wound I obtained an appointment in the Veteran Reserve Corps, March 30th 1866 when I was honorably mustered out, by recent Orders from the War Dept. mustering out all Officers of the V.R.C. waiting Orders.  I am thus left without means of support except my pension which is
