negroes; also saw on the ground a young man named George Rittenhouse, who lives on the Washington road, ten miles from Baltimore; don't know exactly what kind of a pistol he had in his hand; it looked like a Colts; was about nine inches in length; dont know whether he shot any before witness saw him; he grabbed a loaded revolver out of witness hand, but afterwards returned it still loaded; the pistol which Rittenhouse previously had was empty when witness saw it; heard some man make a speech in the circle, but dont know exactly what he said, or who he was; when Rittenhouse took witnesses pistol he said that somebody had struck him; saw there parties above named in the crowd when the fight was going on; Rittenhouse told me, as well as I can recollect, "that he had shot six times in amongst the negroes, and that they had shot the first pistol after they had rallied"; he was compelled to fall up on his face to prevent being shot himself
