we had better surround and kill the Negroes. Orders from the Circle officers were not obeyed on account to the Excitement, I requested one of the Ministers and one of the tent holders to go to the Colored people, and persuade them to leave the ground immediately, which order the colored people obeyed, leaving tents and goods, on the grounds.

Soon after I went to the Colored people's tents, and found several young white men, who were in the act of tearing down the tents. I informed them again that I was an officer and would not allow them to disturb the goods belonging to the Colored people, one of the Crowd observed that if I took up for the Negroes, I would get my head knocked off.
