States that in years 1865 & 66 the colored people about Vicksburg placed in his hands $10,000 to buy lands for them, and as the State laws of Miss prevented freedmen from owning real estate the property was deeded in his name. That Lt. Gov. Clark & Rev C.K. Marshall are urging the Grand Jury against him. Asks that the freedpeople and himself be protected by the Bureau

Genl Thomas announced that Mr. Edwards be ordered to ap to the Asst. Commr, Miss. for the funds mentioned.
