[[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] States that in years 1865 & 66 the colored people about Vicksburg placed in his hands $10,000 to buy lands for them, and as the State laws of Miss prevented freedmen from owning real estate the property was deeded in his name. That Lt. Gov. Clark & Rev C.K. Marshall are urging the Grand Jury against him. Asks that the freedpeople and himself be protected by the Bureau [[stamp]] Freedmen's Bureau State of Miss Received Jan 21 1867 [[/stamp]] Genl Thomas announced that Mr. Edwards be ordered to ap to the Asst. Commr, Miss. for the funds mentioned.
