Dear Sir,

I have a son, about fifteen years old, now living in Tampa Fl., sixteen miles from Tampa Bay, bound out to Mr Brown till he comes to be eighteen. I was sold from Tampa about fourteen years ago, & brought to this city. I left my child with my wife in Tampa. My wife died sometime after I left, & I have never seen her since we were separated. About three months ago I went to Tampa to get my child, but found that he was bound out without any promise of a trade or any learning. I went to the Freedman's Bureau in that place, & the agent wrote a letter for me to the Quartermaster, who took my oath that the child mentioned (named Simon Peter) was my child. He gave the letter to me to take to Tallahasse. When I reached St Marks, I gave the letter to Capt. McKay, Capt. of the Governor Marvin, who
