Colonel:

     As Bvt Col J Simons, Surgeon US Army, and Medical Director of the 1st Military Dist (State of Va) will not be in position to perform the duties of Surgeon in Chief of the Dist. of Va. I have to request that Surgeon DeLamater may be retained on duty in that District and the recommendation in my letter of March 13th that he be transferred to the Dist. of La. of Fla. be annulled.

     I would also recommend that Surgeon J.W. Applegate US Vols be relieved from the charge of the Hospital at Magnolia and assigned to duty as Surgeon in Chief of the Dist. of Fla.
