States that from boyhood he has been connected with a large Lumber Establishment and has kept an exact account of labor performed and its cost: transmits a statement showing that the average cost of labor for 1866 was about the same in figures as in 1860. Notices a marked change in the freedmen since January 1867 - the more intelligent giving most attention to their work and families
