WEST VIRGINIA STATE COLLEGE Institute West Virginia DEPARTMENT OF AUTO MECHANICS Tuesday Morning My dearest Charlene: It was nice talking with you Sunday nite even though I was not in the best of spirits. After such an enjoyable Christmas I have had unusual difficulty becoming readjusted to my bachelorhood. I miss you more each day. Things which once were minor now seem to reach major proportions in terms of upsetting my existence. Each time that I get an ache or pain, when I go home hungry to an empty house, when I want someone to talk with, or even when I pop a button off my shirt, I get far more disturbed than I used to. There are so many ways in which you fit into my life. Your absence from what should be a happy home creates a depressing void. All of it comes down on me when I witness my friends and associates living as married people should and raising happy families. Yesterday when Wilson informed me that the are infanticipating again, it came like a jolt. The thought came to my mind: "How can you "afford" two on your salary, and I cannot even have one on my salary which is far greater than yours. It all boils down to the fact that it depends on where people place their values...."what matters much and what matters most". Our efforts appear to be directed toward the dollar sign and social prestige. Meanwhile I am fast approaching "that certain age". Those 10 years between us really do make a difference. If only you had a desire to raise your own family instead of spending your money on someone else's children....money which comes at the sacrifice of your home. It's not fair. No noteworthy news since I talked with you except: 1. Have had to put my D.C. boy, Roland Brown, on probation for poor dorm conduct; 2. A Charleston man was killed when he wrecked his car yesterday evening in front of the Goodrich Plant. In spite of the poor road conditions, he apparently was travelling about 80 or 90mph headed this way. He skidded on a patch of ice (we'd had 2" of snow Sun.), crossed the road, and slid sideways about 100' thru the field where the Peacock Club was torn down, then flew thru the air another 15' and landed on the top. He was thrown clear, over against the hillside another 20' away. Of course the car was demolished. It was a Ford 500 Victoria with only 690 miles on it. He died about two hours later in the hospital. Eunice talked with Mimi Sat. note and was told that Mimi is going to stay in D.C. and look after Alan. I meant to tell you that she wrote you after trying several times to reach you by phone. I guess these were time that you had no papers go grade. Must get busy in the shop now. The morning is nearly gone. Here's hoping that I'll not have to wait another 10 days before hearing from you again. Regards to all. Your husband (who loves you yet), [[signature]] P.S. We have another Xmas gift which we'll get for Easter - from Eleanor & Irving Ross
