So much for that. If it becomes necessary to write to the factory, let me know. I had a little of this type of experience while working for Lorma Motors. If you can find the factory representative's name and address, you might send him a copy of all correspondence which you have with City. Look in your phone book for the General Motors Corp. office. They should be able to give you the name and address of the Oldsmobile Factory Representative for your area.

Now, how's about a new Mercury? Talked with the folks at Bob Hess today. Had "Sticky" Mills call the manager first---the same man who was operating out of Chillicothe, Ohio sometime ago. The car which I priced was a Monterey 4-door Phaeton. The difference between it and the Montclair this year is only in trim and certain basic equipment (and dual exhaust). These are things my pocketbook can forego. One of the salesmen drove our car around the block while I was purchasing some parts for another car. Upon returning, he said that they'd give me between nine hundred and a thousand. The car which he figured on came to $4006.15 and he said they'd take my car and $3000.00. The car was equipped with everything including two-tone paint except power equipment for $3963.15; addition of power brakes (no steering) at $43.00 brought it to $4006.15

He said that by transferring my present insurance, I'd likely be able to get the bank to finance the whole $3000.00 (meaning no down payment). After all, they'd be only putting up 3000 on a 4000 car. I'm going to write to Shannon & Luchs to find out how much additional premium I'd have to pay. One hitch (and a big one), I'd have to get the bank to put up more than $3000.00. I'd need enough to absorb the outstanding notes so that those payments could be diverted to the car. Here's how I figure it:

Note on car $3000.00
Due Commercial
Credit Corp. 159.96
Due Kan. Valley 274.22
Due Shannon &
*Luchs (at present) 90.00 *Additional on new car
      TOTAL NEED $3524.18
**Int. at 6% for **Most likely lower rate
***3 yrs 634.35 than 6% however.
TOTAL $4158.53 ***May be limited to 30 mos.

$4158.53 รท 36 = $115.51/mo. payments.

                   Present 86.30

                                     $28.04 left to pay)

Do you think we can do it honey? We'd be "on the rocks" for three more years. That's nothing new though. We'd have to "scratch", cut out the extras, smoke less, diet a bit, etc. With you at home, the phone bill will be less (gasoline & food higher though---smile); Kanawha Supply will be paid out in April as will Bank of Dunbar. What do you say? Think it over and we'll talk about it when you get here.
