Your communication of the 27th ult. enclosing newspaper copy of a letter written by Pierce Burton, a Bureau Clerk at Demopolis Ala. is received.

The matter had already had my attention, and my absence from Montgomery, alone prevented an order for the discharge of Mr. Burton, which has already been issued.
