I have the honor to present herewith my application for a clerkship at your Headquarters

I have held the commission of Captain and CP volunteers from which I was discharged my services being no longer required.

My duties have been of such a nature as to render me familiar with Government accounts and well informed as regard the Freedman, whose interest you have intrusted to your care.

Trusting that I may receive your most careful consideration.
