Philosophy 29.

of meditation, from what I understand, is to quiet it,..if you can get removed. For instance, for a moment, when I listen to you, for a moment my mind is quiet. And [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] more or less, the right answer will come through. But if my mind is like this, trying to protect myself, to impress you, it is caught up in desire of one kind or another. It's not pure. I'm using this in a very special way.

So, when the mind is quiet, all great inventors will say [[strikethrough]] (if you read) will say, [[/strikethrough]] "The idea came down when I was alone, quiet."

The more one can maintain that, the better. And the purpose of meditation is to slow down the activity of the mind, as I understand. Underlined, because I may not understand.

BOB: Back to Altruism then. In Detachment you mentioned...

B: If you read these books that I've read, you'll get it much more clearly then what I'm passing on.

I'm so interested in Detachment now. For instance, I have a lot of fun with Stephanie. A very charming, attractive man comes in. Oh, I was very attracted to him in a detached way. Therefore we could joke, no jealousy, just good times. But if I weren't watchful, it could have been different.

You see, all great teachers have said, "Man, know thy self." As we watch ourselves, we can stop.
