Dear Warren:

Still waiting - nervous - for a word from Mae. He said "about the 15th" but he hasn't specified.

I've got about 25 drawings finished, and will take them in to show you and discuss makeup and reproduction. I should like to do any poem in the book. Macy must give me "The New Spoon River to do next.

The news from Europe gets ever more ominous, it seems to me. I fear the slightly cheering news from Egypt only means a more desperate and deadly attempt on Hitler's part to finish England, and the war.

Did I mention the Pirates ? It's a delightful book and, I think your drawings a decided advance for you in many ways. They are very good indeed.

Needless to say how much we look forward to seeing you soon

A Happy New Year to you both and Mary Jean
I [[?]] send love always
