You are authorized to carry a full supply of clothing and equipment, subject to weight restrictions given below. It is advisable, however, to buy as much of this as possible at nearby Army Post Exchanges and Army Quartermaster located at 58 Street and First Avenue, Brooklyn, New York and can be easily reached by the B.M.T. subway line from Manhattan. The San Francisco Port of Embarkation is located at Fort Mason. The types of clothing necessary are listed on pages 6 and 7 listed above. Certain equipment, listed on page 7, may be drawn on memorandum receipt at the same time clothing is purchased. Provisions should be in your orders authorizing the buying and drawing of equipment and clothing. If in Washington, contact should be made before buying or drawing any of this material with Major Case (SOS), RE 6700, Extension 6663 so that he can approve the Depot's action. The amount of personal baggage allowed for overseas shipment by water is limited to 175 pounds. It is advisable to take one foot locker trunk, a small bag, a bedding roll and a musette bag.

5. a. Civilian artists will have an "accredited status" similar to that of war correspondents and will be given (and should always have with them) a certificate to that effect; this serves as a protection in case of capture. Civilian artists also will be given a form of identification card, including photograph and fingerprints, etc. (Passport may serve this purpose).

b. The uniform worn by civilian artists will be that of an officer, except that no insignia will be worn, no braid will be worn on the sleeves, and the distinctive patch of a non-combatant will be sewed on the left sleeve below the shoulder; this patch may be drawn at the QM Depot at the Port of Embarkation.
