be able to evacuate their store, and now the demolition crew wouldn't let them inside. All their books were inside, packed into boxes, ready to go. I told Harry you could bribe the demolition crew - that's how the Bassett people (and us, indirectly) were able to get the stuff out of Janice's building, which had been declared "the most dangerous building in Whittier."
Harry + Delores proceeded in that direction, got their books out, and moved to Big Bear. They started tearing down their building a couple of days ago.
I couldn't take any more pictures for over a week. Taking a picture of somebody else's town and troubles would be one thing - taking pictures of mine has proven to be a very tall order, one I haven't met too well, I'm afraid.
It's the kind of experience that falls into the category of "It-will-never-happen-to-me-it's-too-awful", so when it did happen to us, it has taken a lot of adjusting to. But damn it, adjust we shall!! So what if they rebuild uptown Whittier to look like a strip mall - we've still got our health!

We are all doing fine, and we appreciate your concern. If nothing else, adversity has helped bring us all closer together, and that's not all bad.
