March | Your name here- call or email Thora On Donating Artworks A bill that would allow artists and scholars who donate their work to a museum or other charitable cause to claim a tax deduction based on a full fair market value has just been passed by the US Senate. Currently, such work receives a deduction based only on the cost of materials unless it is donated posthumously by the estate of the artist. In order to qualify the art, the art must be appraised and donated before 18 months have passed its creation. Pete Domenici introduced the bill which will now go to a House-Senate Conference Committee dealing with tax relief. The House had not included the bill but Sen. Domenici said he was hopeful this Committee would now include the measure.
