Dear Reggie, I know you,d given up on hearing from me but I have been snowed under with so many things,my shows,doing a children,s book and this museum show's catalog that will also be autobiographical and way over a hundred pages.I can't wait for you to see it when it comes out in September .1997 because it goes through a lot of things you're familiar with including the Metropolitan museum's too,etc.I'm including a lot of accounts that include you and others that you know. I never responded much to what you wrote about in your letters concerning what you were or were not doing in your art.Well I think you have become the exception when it comes to leaving the big art oriented city,i.e.,New York, Chicago,L.A., etc. I went to the Whitney Biannual and though there were a few good works in the show by and large it was all about things that depended more on being able to buy expensive objects,huge physical constructions,and different boring by now sexual stuff that do't shock and more.In fact there were some 2 dimensional works that didn't carry much weight either.Nene and I have a few more days to go in school and then we'll be out like you are. My New York exhibitions went very well, a couple of museum purchases including the Metropolitan.I got good media coverage,except for the New York,I think that is because of Grace Gleuck,I think she's not comfortable with me not being an artist like she remembered back in the 70's,someone that she can write socially or racially about.I could write all day about the problems of getting our works looked at for their artistic merits instead of having to see a race reference beyond our every move. Well you haven't noticed it by now I'm using a compuuter and you are the first person to get a letter from me.Yes I finally broke down and got a power book (Apple) and Nene has been teaching me how to use it. So I'd better stop while I'm ahead,Nene's down in New York city for the night and I'm all alone on this thing. Rudolf and May are out that way,I think they are in Tucson,anyway I'm checking out now but will be keeping you more poossted on the east coast in the next episode.Give our regards to Johnny.
