Dear Reginald,

I was terribly sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. But as you said, after a long life she has now found peace. Having been born during the "horse-and-buggy" era she was blessed to have lived to see and experience the rapid technological developments of our time — the dubious value of much of it notwithstanding.

How is your work going? As I indicated to you, I have been anything but an artist-in-residence at Howard. Actually for the full year and a half I've been here I've had to carry a teaching load as heavy as that of the regular members of the teaching staff; all without tenure. So you see, as so-called artist-in-residence at Howard University any work has suffered instead of thriving. My production has fallen off frightfully. So since my "residency" is up in June I have commenced putting out "feelers". If you hear of anything out there that I might fit into I'd appreciate a tinkle.

Regardless of the above mentioned productivity crisis my show at Hudem's in Detroit will go on as scheduled (6 April) with a few older things and a few newer things. I trust you'll be able to drop in at the opening 6-8p.m.
