I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 11th inst and in reply would respectfully state that I was on duty in Memphis Tenn as A.A.A. Gen'l and Provost Marshall BRF and A.L. exclusively from the 4th to 11th July 1866 at & for which time my papers are made out, and not in 1867 as stated in your letter. If my papers are dated 1867 please have the kindness to change the date to 1866. My impression however is that the latter is the date on my papers.
