clothes. So that's just one example, one more example of how she has inspired my work. In the area of the mask, I began masks in nineteen seventy-three. This was the first mask that I did.

And when I went - I went from that mask to this mask- I had an idea that I wanted to make a mask, but I was gonna need mother to make the costume.

This is a series of masks called The Family of Women Series, and they are masks of women and children I knew as a child. They were friends of my mother's and their children. This one is of my mother, my brother, my sister, and me. So what I would do is I would paint the face - this is actually canvas- painted canvas that has been embroidered and beaded for the faces. And then I would tell mother which, which person I had done and she would make the dress and the children's clothes out of the fabric that we had shopped for, because we would go shopping for a whole bunch of fabric for each project, so it was her decision what color they would wear, and it was her decision how tall the female character would be. So this is what she put herself in. And then I would go and get the dress and I would create the body and sew it together so that it had this, this form, but all of these masks can be worn, they're all in hoot form
