KENMORE HOUSE
Fredericksburg

Built in 1749 by Col. Fielding Lewis, who married George Washington's sister Betty.

Fine brick house, containing interesting panelling & plastic decorations on ceilings & mantels said to have been made by Hessian prisoners, from Washington's designs.

A plan is on foot (May, 1922) to purchase Kenmore for $30,000 and save it as an historic site; otherwise, it is in danger of being ruined by its present owner and the grounds sold into building lots.
