Upon the advise of several persons I take the liberty to address you a few lines, hoping that, if it is in your power, you will kindly aid me in the manner which I desire.
 
I served, during the Rebellion, in the Union Army for four years, three of which I was nearly constantly in the field, and from the various positions I occupied, such as: Orderly Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Adjutant, Captain Comdg a Company, Act. A.A. Genl., etc. I have had some experience in Government Reports, Returns etc. 

Since the war I have held a situation here in Baltimore as Bookkeeper, but last fall on account of the depression in business, I, like so many others, was discharged and have been since
