the cabinet, returned the key to its proper place and locked the drawer.  That was done after office hours when every body had left, except George J. Pollard who had charge of the rooms, and Mr Hildreth has been known to return to the office after it was closed and finding the door locked, managed some way to get the window open and get into the office at two different times.-  The Discharges were kept the same as they were when Gen'l Gregory took the office, and no one reported them as being lost or unsafe until Mr Hildreth had had them in charge for sometime. - The scoundrel who was favored by Gen'l Gregory was George A. Hackett, I suppose, he is a colored man who is at the head of every thing got up by the colored people and is a representative man among them, and though there has been many charges brought against him still he has always met them frankly and proven himself in the right so far as I know.

He has often been to the office on business and in no other way.  Mr Hackett was not a claim Agent and had no business connection with the colored
